Games :: NES :: Lunar Pool

Offsite Review: VC-Reviews.com

Lunar Pool takes the historical game of billiards and reinvents it with a unique and futuristic flair. The rules are simple: All you need to do is use your cue stick to hit the white cue ball, causing it to hit the other numbered balls and make them go into the pockets.

You can enjoy nearly unlimited game play with 30 tables, two different ball arrangements, and the ability to change the degree of friction on the table. You can play against a computer or another human player, so try challenging someone once you've got the hang of the game.

Worth buying 'Lunar Pool' on the Virtual Console?

The humble pool simulation videogame has never made for the most exciting game so a futuristic version of the classic pub game is an intriguing proposition. As you might have guessed the futuristic addition to this classic game is strange physics and table layouts.

Lunar Pool is based on American Pool which is quite different to what the British play. It is more akin to our game called Billiards. The basic idea is to knock the balls in the pockets of course whilst ensuring you don’t sink the cue ball.

The settlers on the moon have tinkered with the beloved pool game by introducing all kinds of shapes of table which make this game feel more like crazy golf rather than pool. Playing pool on an L-shaped table is certainly a lot more difficult. Sometimes pockets are obscured behind bumpers, the fun never ends on the moon!

Another 'bonus' about being on the moon it would seem is the ability to alter the laws of psychics to suit your game! You can adjust the friction on the table so potentially the balls will not stop rolling until they are sunk one way or another! Conversely you can control your balls so they do not roll too much if you want to play safely.

This game can offer some short term fun but doesn’t really have the depth of gameplay to make this worth downloading on the Virtual Console. You'll have much more fun with Kirby's Dream Course on the SNES which is a similar idea but much, much more fun.
